Indian courses go online

Despite the pandemic, the Indian government pledges to continue supporting the partner countries under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme through virtual channels.

The Indian Embassy on Tuesday held an ITEC Day celebration at the embassy's premises in Bangkok to celebrate ties between India and the Thai government through the bilateral ITEC programme, which started in 1964.

According to the embassy, ITEC aims to train the developing partner countries in various courses, as well as cultural exchanges by living in India.

However, after the pandemic struck, the Indian government shifted to a modality called e-ITEC where training is imparted in Thailand by Indian Institutes online in real-time.

For the academic year 2020/2021, 153 Thai officials attended online training courses, said Suchitra Durai, the Indian ambassador.

Ms Durai said the ITEC programme has adapted to the "new normal" lifestyle and moved its courses online to ensure the safety of both participants and tutors, and give everyone a chance to learn despite the impact of the global health crisis.

The ambassador added that once the situation returns to a sense of normality, physical learning would resume as before.
