Convenience stores may sell test kits

A committee on medical equipment under the Public Health Ministry is expected to approve a proposal to allow the sale of Covid-19 antigen test kits (ATKs) at convenience stores nationwide on Wednesday.

"It will be easier to get the test kits once the committee gives the green light for general stores to sell [ATKs]," said the ministry's deputy permanent secretary, Thongchai Keeratihattayakorn.

He said he expected convenience stores would be able to start selling ATKs by the end of this month.

Dr Thongchai said individuals who have been in close contact with Covid-19 patients should purchase an ATK for self-testing.

Meanwhile, Jadet Thammathat-Aree, secretary-general of the National Health Security Office, said that 6.7 million ATKs have been sent countrywide.
