Big jump in antigen test kit usage

The number of Antigen Test Kit (ATK) users reporting their test results has jumped to 46% from 3%, according to the National Health Security Office (NHSO).

Atthaporn Limpanyaler, NHSO deputy secretary-general, welcomed the increase after the office early this week asked recipients to take the test and report the results as soon as possible. On Monday, the NHSO, which started distributing the ATKs for self-testing on Sept 16, said only 7% of recipients out of the 74,674 people reported their results.

Mr Atthaporn warned recipients not to sell the kits to third parties, saying it was against the purpose and would complicate disease-control efforts. He said selling the kits was also illegal and recipients would not be allocated more kits if there was no record of use after the first hand-out.

"We have limited rapid tests so we distributed them to high-risk group people only," he added.

As of 2pm yesterday, 122,412 people were allocated kits and of this number, 121,777 registered via the Pao Tang e-wallet application and the rest received kits from public health volunteers. Of 55,634 people who reported their test results, 379 tested positive for the virus.
