Thailand logged 11,975 Covid-19 cases and 127 fatalities on Saturday, bringing the total to 1.52 million cases and 16,049 fatalities since the start of the third wave, according to the Public Health Ministry.
Of the new cases, 11,883 were among the general population while 92 were found in prisons.
On Saturday, 14,700 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.
Since April 1, when the third wave of Covid-19 began, Thailand has treated 1,520,422 Covid-19 patients, 1,381,176 of whom have recovered.
Since the pandemic started early last year, there have been 1,549,285 Covid-19 cases, with 1,408,821 complete recoveries so far.
The death toll stood at 16,049 during the third wave and 16,143 since the beginning of the pandemic.
The single-day toll peaked in mid-August, with 312 deaths on Aug 18 and 23,418 cases on Aug 13.
The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said the 127 new deaths, 69 of whom were men, were aged 17-98, averaging 71. By nationality, 124 were Thais, one was a Myanmar national and another was a Cambodian. No details were given on the other death.
Bangkok continued to account for the most deaths in a single day, at 31, while 27 were reported in the adjacent provinces of Nonthaburi (8), Samut Prakan (7), Nakhon Pathom (5), Samut Sakhon (4) and Pathum Thani (3).
The Northeast saw seven new deaths in Ubon Ratchathani (3), Yasothon (1), Buri Ram (1), Si Sa Ket (1) and Surin (1).
The North reported 6 new fatalities, one each in Kamphaeng Phet, Chiang Mai, Tak, Phichit, Phitsanulok and Uttaradit.
The South had 23 new deaths in Narathiwat (5), Yala (5), Phuket (4), Krabi (3), Nakhon Si Thammarat (2), Surat Thani (2), Satun (1) and Songkhla (1).
Another 15 provinces recorded 33 more deaths. They were Chanthaburi (5), Chon Buri (4), Rayong (4), Ayutthaya (4), Lop Buri (2), Suphan Buri (2), Phetchaburi (2), Sa Kaeo (2), Kanchanaburi (2), Prachuap Khiri Khan (1), Prachin Buri (1), Samut Songkhram (1), Trat, Ratchaburi (1) and Chachoengsao (1).
The 11,975 new cases comprised 11,956 local infections and 19 imported cases.
Of the local infections, 10,651 were confirmed at hospitals, 1,213 via mass testing and 92 at prisons.
Bangkok had 2,123 new cases (down 116 from the previous day), followed by 744 in Chon Buri (-153), 738 in Samut Prakan (-20), 632 in Yala (-43), 454 in Rayong (-102), 423 in Narathiwat (-16), 401 in Songkhla (-154), 359 in Ratchaburi (-6), and 317 in Samut Sakhon (-56).
Greater Bangkok reported 3,621 cases (-100) and 58 new deaths (+3). Four southern border provinces saw 1,726 new cases (-193) and 11 new deaths (-4), while 67 other provinces had a combined 6,526 new cases (-350) and 58 new fatalities (-3).
The 19 imported cases were from Cambodia (6), Malaysia (4), Russia (2) and one each from Myanmar, Laos, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, France and Singapore. By nationality, 15 were Thais, two were Russian nationals, an American and a Malaysian.
On Friday, 124,540 people received Covid-19 treatment at hospitals, including 3,323 seriously ill patients with 729 dependent on ventilators.
Global Covid-19 cases rose by 499,104 to 231.89 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 8,458 to 4.75 million.
The United States had the most cases at 43.66 million, up 131,009. Thailand ranked 29th globally with 1.54 million cases.
