Thailand logged 9,489 new Covid-19 cases and 129 more fatalities during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry announced on Tuesday morning.
There were 9,220 cases in the general population and 269 among prison inmates.
The new cases fell from 10,288 announced on Monday when the country recorded 101 more deaths.
On Monday, 12,805 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.
The 129 new fatalities were between the ages of 25 and 96 years old, and included three Myanmar, two Cambodian, one Chinese and one Iranian nationals.
Bangkok logged the most new deaths at 25 (up from 12 on the previous day) while a further 14 were reported in the adjacent provinces of Samut Prakan (5), Samut Sakhon (3), Nakhon Pathom (3) and Pathum Thani (3).
Other central plain provinces further from the capital recorded 46 more deaths – in Chon Buri (11), Ratchaburi (8), Chanthaburi (5), Rayong (4), Phetchaburi (3), Ayutthaya (3), Prachin Buri (3), Chachoengsao (2), Saraburi (2), Sa Kaeo (1), Samut Songkhram (1), Trat (1), Prachuap Khiri Khan (1) and Kanchanaburi (1).
The Northeast had 11 new fatalities – in Udon Thani (7), Ubon Ratchathani (2), Maha Sarakham (1) and Yasothon (1).
The South reported 22 more deaths – in Yala (5), Nakhon Si Thammarat (4), Narathiwat (4), Chumphon (3), Krabi (2), Phuket (1), Songkhla (1), Phatthalung (1) and Surat Thani (1).
The North saw 11 new fatalities – in Uttaradit (4), Tak (3), Phetchabun (2), Nakhon Sawan (1) and Phitsanulok (1).
The 9,489 new cases included 9,210 local infections and 10 imported cases.
Of the local infections, 8,823 were confirmed at hospitals and 387 via mass testing.
Bangkok had 1,557 new cases (down from 1,785 on the previous day), followed by 722 in Samut Prakan (up from 607), 712 in Chon Buri (up from 587), 413 in Pattani (up from 305), 389 in Nakhon Si Thammarat (up from 250), 346 in Narathiwat (up from 300), 291 in Yala (down from 445), 281 in Songkhla (down from 466), 275 in Nakhon Ratchasima (up from 224) and 259 in Rayong (down from 355).
Greater Bangkok reported 2,696 new cases (down from 3,163) and 39 new deaths (up from 36). Four southern border provinces had 1,331 new cases (down from 1,516) and 10 new fatalities (up from 9), while 67 other provinces recorded 5,183 new cases (down from 5,470) and 77 new deaths (up from 56).
The 10 imported cases were from Israel (1), Germany (2), Ireland (1), Japan (1), Indonesia (1), Cambodia (1), Malaysia (1) and Myanmar (2).
On Monday 116,711 people received Covid-19 treatment at hospitals (down from 120,156 on the previous day), including 3,283 seriously ill patients (down from 3,341) and 738 dependent on ventilators (up from 728).Since April 1, when the third wave of Covid-19 began, Thailand has treated 1,552,552 Covid-19 patients, 1,420,780 of whom have recovered to date.
Since the pandemic started early last year, there have been 1,581,415 Covid-19 cases, with 1,448,206 complete recoveries so far.
The death toll stood at 16,404 during the third wave and 16,498 since the beginning of the pandemic.
The kingdom's all-time 24-hour high of Covid-19 fatalities was 312 recorded on Aug 18. The highest number of cases was 23,418 on Aug 13.
Global Covid-19 cases rose by 371,530 in 24 hours (up from 323,764) to 233.09 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 5,351 (up from 4,965) to 4.77 million.
The United States had the most cases at 43.94 million, up 81,409, and the most deaths at 709,119, up 689.
