11,200 new Covid cases, 113 more deaths

There were 11,200 new Covid-19 cases and 113 more fatalities recorded during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry reported on Thursday morning.

There were 11,062 cases in the general population and 138 among prison inmates.

The number of new cases rose from the 9,866 announced on Wednesday, when the country recorded 102 more deaths.

On Wednesday, 10,087 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.

Since April 1, when the third wave of Covid-19 began, Thailand has treated 1,649,434 Covid-19 patients, 1,524,431 of whom have recovered to date.

Since the pandemic started early last year, there have been 1,678,297 Covid-19 cases, with 1,551,857 complete recoveries so far.

The death toll stood at 17,324 during the third wave and 17,418 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The 113 new deaths were aged 19 to 100 yearsand included two Myanmar and one Cambodian nationals. The 19-year-old was pregnant, in Mae Hong Son province. She had not been vaccinated against Covid-19.

Bangkok logged the most new deaths at 22 while a further 23 were reported in the adjacent provinces of Samut Prakan (18), Nakhon Pathom (4) and Samut Sakhon (1).

Other central plain provinces further from the capital recorded 27 more deaths – in Saraburi (4), Lop Buri (3), Suphan Buri (3), Chanthaburi (3), Kanchanaburi (2), Ratchaburi (2), Prachin Buri (2), Chachoengsao (2), Rayong (2), Phetchaburi (1), Ayutthaya (1), Ang Thong (1) and Chon Buri (1).

The Northeast had 17 new fatalities – in Udon Thani (7), Chaiyaphum (3), Nakhon Ratchasima (3), Surin (3) and Ubon Ratchathani (1).

The South reported 16 more deaths – in Narathiwat (7), Yala (4), Chumphon (2), Surat Thani (1), Satun (1) and Trang (1).

The North saw 8 new fatalities – in Mae Hong Son (4), Tak (2), and Nakhon Sawan (2).

The 11,200 new cases included 11,042 local infections and 20 imported cases. Of the local infections, 9,996 were confirmed at hospitals and 1,046 via mass testing.

Bangkok had 1,279 new cases (up from 1,208), followed by 795 in in Samut Prakan (up from 602), 752 in Chon Buri (up from 601), 740 in Yala (up from 446), 596 in Songkhla (down from 666), 450 in Chanthaburi (up from 245), 398 in Rayong (up from 379), 332 in Narathiwat (down from 501), 330 in Prachin Buri (up from 313) and 313 in Nakhon Si Thammarat (up from 259).

Greater Bangkok reported 2,553 new cases (up from 2,218) and 45 new deaths (up from 36). Four southern border provinces had 1,949 new cases (up from 1,922) and 11 new fatalities (up from 6), while 67 other provinces recorded 6,540 new cases (up from 5,665) and 57 new deaths (down from 60).

The 20 imported cases were from the United States (1), Hong Kong (1), the Maldives (1), the United Arab Emirates (1), Ukraine (1), Russia (2), Cambodia (12) and Myanmar (1).

On Wednesday 109,022 people received Covid-19 treatment at hospitals (up from 108,022), including 3,000 seriously ill patients (down from 3,017) and 715 dependent on ventilators (down from 720).

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 452,378 in 24 hours (up from 411,101 on the previous day) to 237.07 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 8,194 (up from 7,487) to 4.84 million.

The US had the most cases at 44.91 million, up 106,455 (up from 94,811) and the most deaths at 727,274, up 2,093 (up from1,811).
