There were 9,810 new Covid-19 cases and 66 more fatalities recorded during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry announced on Friday morning.
There were 9,690 cases in the general population and 120 among prison inmates.
The number of new cases rose from the 9,727 announced on Thursday, when there were 73 deaths reported.
On Thursday, 10,513 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.
Since April 1, when the third wave of Covid-19 began, Thailand has treated 1,802,526 Covid-19 patients, 1,683,021 of whom have recovered to date.
Since the pandemic started early last year, there have been 1,831,389 Covid-19 cases, with 1,710,447 complete recoveries so far.
The death toll stood at 18,531 during the third wave and 18,625 since the beginning of the pandemic.
Apisamai Srirangson, a spokeswoman for the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, said in the afternoon briefing that the 66 latest fatalities were aged 39 to 100 years and included two Myanmar nationals and one Vietnamese.
Bangkok recorded 10 more deaths while a further six were reported in the adjacent provinces of Samut Sakhon (3), Samut Prakan (2), and Pathum Thani (1).
Other central plains provinces recorded 11 more deaths – in Chon Buri (2), Saraburi (2), Samut Songkhram (2), Ratchaburi (1), Prachuap Khiri Khan (1), Rayong (1), Chachoengsao (1) and Lop Buri (1).
The Northeast had eight fatalities – in Nakhon Ratchasima (3), Amnat Charoen (2), Udon Thani (1), Ubon Ratchathani (1) and Buri Ram (1).
The South reported 25 more deaths – in Pattani (7), Yala (3), Nakhon Si Thammarat (3), Narathiwat (2), Satun (2), Songkhla (2), Phuket (2), Chumphon (2) and Krabi (2).
The North saw six fatalities – in Tak (3), Lamphun (2) and Phrae (1).
The 9,810 new cases included 9,680 local infections and 10 imported cases.
Of the local infections, 9,001 were confirmed at hospitals and 679 via mass testing.
Bangkok had 908 new cases, followed by 676 in Songkhla, 662 in Nakhon Si Thammarat, 432 in Yala, 422 in Pattani, 412 in Chiang Mai, 341 in Prachuap Khiri Khan, 309 in Tak, 307 in Samut Prakan and 306 in Narathiwat.
Greater Bangkok reported 1,559 new cases and 16 new deaths. Four southern border provinces had 1,836 new cases and 14 new fatalities, while 67 other provinces recorded 6,285 new cases and 35 new deaths.
The 10 imported cases were from Singapore (1), the United Arab Emirates (1), India (1), the United States (1), Taiwan (1), Cambodia (2) and Myanmar (3).
On Thursday 102,317 people received Covid-19 treatment at hospitals, including 2,585 seriously ill patients with lung inflammation and 583 dependent on ventilators.
“The numbers of patients with lung inflammation, those dependent on ventilators and new fatalities are declining,” Dr Apisamai said.
Global Covid-19 cases rose by 461,290 in 24 hours to 243.26 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 7,194 to 4.94 million.
The United States had the most cases at 46.17 million, up 80,835, and the most deaths at 753,747, up 1,428.
