Thailand logged 44 new Covid-19 fatalities and 8,675 new cases during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry announced on Monday morning.
On Sunday, 9,589 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.
The compares with the daily figures of 9,351 new Covid-19 cases and 56 fatalities reported on Sunday morning.
Since April 1, when the third wave of Covid-19 began, Thailand has treated 1,830,294 Covid-19 patients, 1,712,890 of whom have recovered to date.
Since the pandemic started early last year, there have been 1,859,157 Covid-19 cases, with 1,740,316 complete recoveries so far.
The death toll stood at 18,705 during the third wave and 18,799 since the beginning of the pandemic.
The kingdom’s 24-hour high of Covid-19 fatalities was 312 recorded on Aug 18. The highest number of cases was 23,418 on Aug 13.
The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said on Monday afternoon that Bangkok led the new infections with 903 cases, followed by Pattani (618), Songkhla (586), Nakhon Si Thammarat (582), and Chiang Mai and Narathiwat (352 each).
There were 11 new cases from overseas - four from Cambodia, three from Russia, two from Denmark and one each from Myanmar and Malaysia.
Nakhon Si Thammarat had the most new fatalities with six, followed by five in Bangkok, four in Samut Prakan, and three each in Yala, Chaiyaphum and Ayutthaya.
CCSA assistant spokeswoman Apisamai Srirungson said mass vaccination would focus on southern border provinces with more supplies of vaccine being sent to the area, as they were below the national inoculation average.
Nationwide, 55% of the population had received one dose, compared with an average 46% in the southern border provinces. Narathiwat had the lowest rate of vaccination at 40%.
Dr Apisamai asked people in the southern border region to accept vaccination as this would bring down the number of new cases and fatalities in the four provinces.
On Sunday, 100,042 people received Covid-19 treatment at hospitals, including 2,437 seriously ill patients and 536 dependent on ventilators.Global Covid-19 cases rose by 320,098 in 24 hours to 244,426,712.
The worldwide death toll went up by 4,735 to 4,963,743. The United States had the most cases at 46,312,782, up 17,580 and the most deaths at 756,362, up 157.
