Thailand logged 7,305 new Covid-19 cases and 51 new fatalities during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry announced on Friday morning.
The number of daily coronavirus cases went down by 191 from the previous day and deaths also dropped by 6.
Vaccinations continue to make good progress. As of Nov 11, 83.32 million doses have been administered: 44.8 million (62.2%) as a first dose, 35.8 million (49.7%) as a second dose and 2.7 million (3.8%) as a third shot, meaning 53.5% of eligible people are fully vaccinated, according to the Centre for Covid Situation Administration (CCSA).
On Thursday alone, 788,090 doses were administered: 230,037 first shots, 523,566 second shots and 34,387 third shots.
A total of 2.19 million doses (26.5%) have been administered to foreigners living in Thailand, with 1,294,666 as a first dose, it said.
Since April 1, when the third Covid wave began, Thailand has treated 1,975,411 Covid patients, 1,861,110 of whom have recovered to date. On Thursday, 7,900 Covid patients were discharged from hospitals.
Since the pandemic started early last year, there have been 2,004,274 Covid cases, with 1,888,536 complete recoveries so far.
The death toll stands at 19,934, with all but 96 of the deaths occurring since April 1.
The kingdom’s all-time 24-hour high of Covid fatalities was 312 recorded on Aug 18. The highest number of cases was 23,418 on Aug 13.
The CCSA said the 51 people whose deaths were reported on Friday were aged 39 to 92 years. They were 49 Thais, one Philippine national and one Italian national.
Bangkok recorded five deaths and there were another two in the adjacent province of Samut Prakan.
The South saw 16 deaths in Songkhla (4), Phatthalung (3), Pattani (2), Yala (2), Chumphon (1), Nakhon Si Thammarat (1), Narathiwat (1), Trang (1) and Satun (1).
The Northeast had 7 fatalities — in Khon Kaen (2), Kalasin (2), Nakhon Ratchasima (1), Ubon Ratchathani (1) and Surin (1).
The North had 9 deaths –in Chiang Rai (2), Tak (2), Nakhon Sawan (2), Chiang Mai (1), Uttaradit (1) and Nan (1).
Other central plain provinces further from the capital recorded 12 more deaths — in Chon Buri (3), Phetchaburi (2), Prachin Buri (1), Sing Buri (1), Nakhon Nayok (1), Saraburi (1), Rayong (1), Kanchanaburi (1) and Prachuap Khiri Khan (1).
The 7,305 new cases comprised 7,294 local infections and 11 imported cases. Of the local infections, 6,651 were confirmed at hospitals, 323 via mass testing and 320 at prisons.
Bangkok again had the most daily cases, 674, down 78 from 752 the day before, followed by Songkhla 475 (-21), Chiang Mai 434 (+43), Nakhon Si Thammarat 376 (+1), and Pattani 355 (unchanged).
The 11 imported cases were from Germany (1), Russia (1), Qatar (2), Myanmar (2) and Cambodia (5).
On Thursday, 95,804 people were being treated in hospitals including 1,824 seriously ill patients and 423 dependent on ventilators.
Global Covid cases rose by 496,395 in the past 24 hours to 252.63 million. The worldwide death toll went up 6,575 to 5.09 million. The United States had the most cases, 47.69 million, up 43,596.
