The Prime Minister's Secretariat Office has issued a clarification on 2.6 million baht spent on the procurement of 111 iPhone 12s.

Natthriya Thaweevong, the office's adviser to the prime minister, yesterday said the new phones will replace the iPhone 7 which have been used for six years.

Normally a procurement occurs every four years, Ms Natthriya said. However, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and most of his cabinet have refused to receive a new iPhone.

The purchase includes 23 iPhone 12s with 128 GB for ministers, director-generals and senior officials down to C10 level and 88 iPhone 12s with 64GB for director-level officials.
