BMA mulling distribution of fourth booster shots

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is planning a fourth booster shot against Covid-19 for members of three at-risk groups.

Bangkok governor Aswin Kwanmuang said the vaccine rollout is meant for medical personnel, frontline workers and people living with chronic diseases, and the initiative can start once it is approved by the Public Health Ministry's Department of Disease Control.

Pol Gen Aswin said the BMA has details for these groups stored in a database, so vaccines can be allocated to service agencies and their distribution can be planned immediately. He said the BMA's vaccination programme is being carried out in line with DDC guidelines.

According to the DDC, recipients of mixed Sinovac-AstraZeneca doses and two inactivated vaccines would receive a third shot of AstraZeneca. Recipients of two shots of AstraZeneca would get a Pfizer booster shot, while former Covid-19 patients would get the AstraZeneca vaccine as a booster shot.

Meanwhile, Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul yesterday insisted that inbound travellers who registered under the "Test & Go" programme before its temporary suspension will still be allowed to enter the country.

The registration for the scheme has been suspended until Tuesday after a surge in local Omicron variant cases. Prior to the suspension, about 200,000 people registered for the programme and 110,000 received approval, while the rest was pending review.

Mr Anutin said about 400-500 cases were likely to be detected among the 200,000 inbound passengers entering via the Test & Go programme but he expressed confidence that strict curbs can help control the situation.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha yesterday thanked all parties involved in the country's Covid-19 certificate system which is accepted in Europe, said government spokesman Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana.

The Thailand Digital Health Pass on the Mor Prom app will be accepted in the EU next month and those in possession of the passes can make use of them under the same conditions as the EU Digital Covid certificate.
