Phuket seeks promotion of its measures

Phuket governor Narong Woonciew has asked eight ambassadors to help promote the resort island's Covid-19 measures among their nationals.

The envoys in response requested that the governor allocate more vaccines to residents from their respective countries.

Mr Narong reportedly met with the consul-generals of Australia and Russia, as well as the honorary consuls from Austria, Mexico, Nepal, Netherlands, Norway and Switzerland to discuss the province's disease control measures at City Hall yesterday.

The aim was to update them on the current number of Covid-19 infections in Phuket, the economic situation, and details of the pandemic measures.

He said he wanted all people living in Phuket to be safe so anyone who shows even mild symptoms, or has had close contact with those who are infected or considered a high-risk group, must be treated or quarantined the same as locals.

The governor also underlined that it is mandatory to wear face masks in public areas.

Those who violate the law can face up to two years in jail and/or a fine of up to 40,000 baht.

Mr Narong told media the province had recorded 415 Covid cases as of Thursday.
