8,167 new Covid cases, 14 more deaths

There were 14 more Covid-19 fatalities and 8,167 new cases registered during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry said on Thursday morning.

This compared with 19 coronavirus-related fatalities and 7,681 new cases reported on Wednesday morning.

The latest 14 fatalities were aged 32 to 87 years.

Bangkok logged one new death while other central plain provinces recorded three more deaths – in Chanthaburi (1), Chon Buri (1) and Ayutthaya (1).

The Northeast had four more fatalities - in Nakhon Ratchasima (3) and Ubon Ratchathani (1).

The South reported four more deaths - in Pattani, Yala, Songkhla and Satun.

The North saw two fatalities - in Nakhon Sawan and Uthai Thani.

The 8,167 new cases comprised 8,101 cases in the general population, 66 among prison inmates and 239 imported cases.

Of the local Covid-19 infections, 7,784 were confirmed at hospitals and 78 via mass testing.

Chon Buri had the most new cases at 832, followed by 790 in Bangkok, 625 in Samut Prakan, 468 in Nonthaburi, 381 in Phuket, 337 in Khon Kaen, 281 in Ubon Ratchathani, 216 in Nakhon Si Thammarat, 184 in Pathum Thani and 176 in Chiang Mai.

The 239 imported cases included 41 from Russia, 27 from the United States, 16 from the United Kingdom, 15 from Germany and 14 from Sweden.

On Wednesday 70,594 people received Covid-19 treatment at hospitals (up from 66,286 on the previous day), including 520 seriously ill patients with lung inflammation (up from 480) and 110 dependent on ventilators (up from 108).

That 24-hour period also saw 3,845 Covid-19 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 2,300,457 Covid-19 cases including 77,022 cases this year, with 2,207,980 complete recoveries so far.

The death toll stood at 21,883 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 185 this year.

The kingdom's 24-hour high of Covid-19 fatalities was 312 recorded on Aug 13. The highest number of cases was 23,418 on Aug 18.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 3.14 million in 24 hours (up from 2.77 million the previous day) to 317.52 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 8,032 (up from 7,847) to 5.53 million.

The US had the most cases at 64.34 million, up 814,494, and the most deaths at 866,882, up 2,269.

Thailand ranked 26th with its accumulated 2.30 million cases.
