CHIANG MAI: A patrol from the 4th Cavalry Regiment of the Pha Muang Force on Saturday arrested 25 Myanmar nationals in Fang district for illegal entry.

The 25 - 12 men, five women and eight children - were found by the patrol at Nong Bua Kham village in tambon Mon Pin of Fang district. Also arrested was a Thai man who came with a pickup to meet them at the village to then take them further inside the country.

An interrogation revealed all the illegal border crossers were from Kyaukme in Myanmar's Shan State. The adults had paid 20,000 baht each to brokers in Thailand for jobs in Chiang Mai.

They were handed over to Fang police for legal proceedings, pending deportation.

The 4th Cavalry Regiment is responsible for conducting patrols along the border with Myanmar in Fang, Chiang Dao, Chai Prakan and Wiang Haeng districts in order to suppress illegal border crossings and smuggling of drugs and contraband.
