6,929 new Covid cases, 13 more deaths

The country registered 13 more Covid-19 fatalities and 6,929 new cases during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry announced on Monday morning.

This compared with the nine coronavirus-related fatalities and 8,077 new cases reported on Sunday morning.

Apisamai Srirangson, assistant spokesperson for the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, said in the afternoon briefing that the 13 new fatalities were between the ages of 69 and 92 years old.

Bangkok logged one new death while other central plains provinces had two – in Samut Prakan (1) and Prachuap Khiri Khan (1).

The Northeast had six new fatalities – in Buri Ram (2), Khon Kaen (1), Nakhon Ratchasima (1), Si Sa Ket (1) and Udon Thani (1).

The South reported one more death in Yala.

The North saw three new fatalities in Chiang Mai (2) and Chiang Rai (1).

The new cases comprised 6,713 cases in the general population, seven among prison inmates and 209 imported cases.

Of the local Covid-19 infections, 6,670 were confirmed at hospitals and 43 via mass testing.

Bangkok had the most new cases at 722, followed by 656 in Samut Prakan, 454 in Chon Buri, 389 in Phuket, 386 in Nonthaburi, 290 in Khon Kaen, 210 in Ubon Ratchathani, 199 in Pathum Thani, 193 in Chiang Mai and 182 in Nakhon Si Thammarat.

On Sunday 82,210 people received Covid-19 treatment at hospitals, including 533 seriously ill patients with lung inflammation and 108 dependent on ventilators.

The 24-hour period also saw 5,255 Covid-19 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 2,331,414 Covid-19 cases, including 107,979 cases this year, with 2,227,266 complete recoveries to date.

The death toll stood at 21,938 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 240 so far this year.

The kingdom’s 24-hour high of Covid-related fatalities was 312 recorded on Aug 13. The highest number of cases was 23,418 on Aug 18.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 1.94 million on in 24 hours to 328.77 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 3,992 to 5.55 million.

The United States had the most cases at 66.99 million, up 287,973, and the most deaths at 873,564, up 346.
