Thailand registered 8,112 more Covid-19 cases and 19 new fatalities during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry announced on Saturday morning.
This compared with 8,640 new cases and 13 coronavirus-related fatalities reported on Friday morning.
The 19 latest fatalities were between the ages of 44 and 88 years with the average age of 75. They were nine men and 10 women. By nationality, there were 18 Thais and one Spanish national.
There were 7,935 cases in the kingdom and 177 cases imported from other countries.
Of the local Covid-19 infections, 7,746 were confirmed at hospital, 35 via mass testing and 154 at prisons.
Bangkok logged the most new cases at 1,143 – down by 487 from 1630 on the previous day, followed by 645 in Samut Prakan (-55), 395 in Chon Buri (-87), 385 in Phuket (+8), 359 in Nonthaburi (-110), 265 each in Pathum Thani (-29) and Khon Kaen (-8), 188 in Ubon Ratchathani (-33), 181 in Nakhon Ratchasima (-8), and 169 each in Nakhon Si Thammarat (-25) and Lop Buri (+45).
The 177 imported cases were from 37 countries: 32 from Russia, 29 from Uzbekistan, 15 from India, 11 from Sweden, 7 each from the United Arab Emirates, the United States and Australia, and the remaining cases from the 30 countries.
Bangkok saw two new deaths and one was reported in adjacent Samut Prakan province.
The Northeast logged three new fatalities – two in Ubon Ratchathani and one in Nakon Ratchasima.
The North had eight new deaths – three in Phitsanulok, two in Phetchabun and one each in Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Uthai Thani.
In the South, one new death was reported in Satun.
Other central plain provinces farther from the capital saw four fatalities – one each in Phetchaburi, Kanchanaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan and Rayong.
The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said on Saturday afternoon that vaccinations continued to progress, with 111.88 million doses administered as of Friday. 74.8% of the population have now received at one dose of the vaccine, 69.1% have received two shots and 17.0% a booster dose.
On Friday, 83,231 people received Covid-19 treatment at hospitals (up from 82,720 on the previous day), including 565 seriously ill patient (up from 540) and 129 dependent on ventilators (up from 118).
The 24-hour period also saw 7,582 Covid-19 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.
Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 2,369,814 Covid-19 cases, including 146,379 since the beginning of this year, with 2,264,564 complete recoveries to date.
The accumulated death toll stood at 22,019 since the beginning of the pandemic.
The highest number of Covid-related fatalities in a 24-hour period was 312 recorded on Aug 13. The highest number of cases was 23,418 on Aug 18.
Global Covid-19 cases rose by 3.63 million in 24 hours to 346.85m. The worldwide death toll went up by 9,034 to 5.60 million.
The US had the most cases at 71.39 million, up 779,036. Thailand ranked 26th globally with 2.36 million cases.
