9,909 new Covid cases, 22 more deaths

There were 22 more Covid-19 fatalities and 9,909 new cases reported on Thursday, the Public Health Ministry announced on Friday morning.

This compared with the 21 coronavirus-related fatalities and 9,172 new cases reported on Thursday morning.

The latest 22 fatalities were between the ages of 28 and 95 years.

Bangkok logged three new deaths while two other fatalities were reported in the adjacent provinces of Samut Prakan and Pathum Thani.

Other central plain provinces further from the capital recorded four more deaths – two in Trat and one each in Ayutthaya and Lop Buri.

The Northeast had five fatalities – two in Ubon Ratchathani and one each in Nakhon Phanom, Maha Sarakham and Nong Khai.

The South reported five more deaths - in Phangnga (2), Chumphon (1), Trang (1) and Phuket (1).

The North saw three coronavirus-related fatalities - in Phetchabun (2) and Tak (1).

There were 9,676 new cases in the general population, 45 among prison inmates and 188 imported cases.

Of the local Covid-19 infections, 9,630 were confirmed at hospitals and 46 via mass testing.

Bangkok still had the most new cases at 1,593, followed by 849 in Samut Prakan, 494 in Nonthaburi, 460 in Chon Buri, 379 in Phuket, 254 in Ubon Ratchathani, 200 in Nakhon Ratchasima, 193 in Suphan Buri, 190 in Ratchaburi and 189 in Pathum Thani.

The 188 imported cases included 59 from Russia, 17 from Israel, 14 from Kazakhstan, 13 from Czechia and 11 from Germany.

On Thursday 86,473 people received Covid-19 treatment at hospitals (up from 84,413), including 516 seriously ill patients with lung inflammation (down from 517) and 105 dependent on ventilators (down from 107).

The 24-hour period also saw 7,827 Covid-19 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 2,475,632 Covid-19 cases, including 252,197 cases this year, with 2,366,909 complete recoveries to date.

The death toll stood at 22,250 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 552 so far this year.

The kingdom’s 24-hour high of Covid-related fatalities was 312 recorded on Aug 13, 2021. The highest number of cases was 23,418 on Aug 18, 2021.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 3.06 million in 24 hours to 388.36 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 11,288 to 5.73 million.

The United States had the most cases at 77.15 million, up 255,944, and the most deaths at 920,829, up 2,376.
