The Land Transport Federation of Thailand (LTFT) is gearing up for a fresh rally on Tuesday in Bangkok to pressure the government to bring down the price of diesel.

LTFT chairman Apichart Prairungruang said at least 1,000 lorries nationwide will converge in front of the Energy Ministry on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road for the "Truck Power Final Season" protest. The first "Truck Power" protest was held last November.

The government agreed to cap diesel prices at 30 baht a litre from November last year to March this year using the Oil Fund via a price subsidy. However, the group demanded that diesel be lowered to 25 baht per litre.

Mr Apichart shrugged off the Energy Ministry's plan to ask the Finance Ministry to slash the oil excise tax to make fuel prices bearable.

Energy authorities impose an excise tax on diesel of 5.99 baht a litre, but the Oil Fuel Fund Office subsidises the levy by paying 3 baht per litre.
