There were 32 more Covid-19 fatalities and 18,883 new cases recorded during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry reported on Monday morning.
This compared with the 30 coronavirus-related fatalities and 18,953 new cases reported on Sunday morning.
Apisamai Srirangson, spokeswoman for the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, said in the afternoon briefing that the 32 latest coronavirus-related fatalities were aged between 28 and 92 years.
“Nineteen of them, or 60%, were unvaccinated. Eight, or 25%, had received two vaccine doses, but more than four months ago. Five had two doses within the past four months but had not received their third shot,” she said.
Bangkok had reported six new deaths and there were two more in the adjacent province of Nakhon Pathom.
Other central plain provinces further from the capital recorded four more deaths – in Suphan Buri (2), Chon Buri (1) and Ratchaburi (1).
The Northeast had nine fatalities - in Kalasin (2), Buri Ram (2), Ubon Ratchathani (2), Chaiyaphum (2) and Maha Sarakham (1).
The South reported seven more deaths - in Phuket (2), Krabi (1), Trang (1), Phangnga (1), Phatthalung (1) and Surat Thani (1).
The North saw four new fatalities - in Chiang Mai (3) and Chiang Rai (1).
There were 18,704 new infection cases in the general population, 17 among prison inmates and 162 imported cases.
Of the local Covid-19 infections, 18,618 were confirmed at hospitals and 86 via mass testing.
Bangkok still had the most new cases at 2,753, followed by 960 in Nakhon Si Thammarat, 926 in Samut Prakan, 884 in Chon Buri, 852 in Nonthaburi, 628 in Phuket, 563 in Nakhon Ratchasima, 475 in Rayong, 429 in Nakhon Pathom and 421 each in Buri Ram and Pathum Thani.
“Most new cases are occurring in provinces that are either fully or partially reopened as tourism pilot zones,” Dr Apisamai said.
She advised people against partying, saying new cases were rising and most new clusters originated from eateries and premises selling alcohol.
However, there was no likelihood of lockdown measures for the time being as the government had to support the economy, the spokeswoman said.
On Thursday 166,397 people received Covid-19 treatment at hospitals, including 796 seriously ill patients with lung inflammation and 202 dependent on ventilators.
The 24-hour period also saw 14,914 Covid-19 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.
Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 2,731,198 Covid-19 cases, including 507,763 cases this year, with 2,542,145 complete recoveries to date.
The death toll stood at 22,656 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 958 so far this year.
Global Covid-19 cases rose by 1.28 million in 24 hours to 424.99 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 5,278 to 5.90 million.
The United States had the most cases at 80.08 million, up 15,056, and the most deaths at 959,412, up 282.
“New cases in America and Europe are declining… Meanwhile, new cases are rising in Asia,” Dr Apisamai said.
Thailand ranked 32nd with its 2.73 million accumulated cases.
