BURI RAM: A fire destroyed the 20-year-old Khok Klang tambon administration organisation building in Lam Plai Mat district on Monday morning, with damage estimated at 10 million baht.

Khok Klang TAO president Charoen Sukwiboon said the fire began around 4.45am.

Fire crews and volunteers took at least two hours to control the flames, which were fanned by a strong wind, Mr Charoen said.

Computers, cabinets and other office equipment and documents in the building were all destroyed, he said.

After initial questioning Lam Plai Mat district police said an electrical short circuit was the  probable cause of the fire, and they had ruled out the possibility of arson.

The building was 20 years old and served as an office for the treasury, general administration, public health and education divisions of the TAO.
