Record 24,932 new Covid cases, 41 more deaths

There were 41 more Covid-19 fatalities and a record 24,932 new confirmed cases recorded during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry reported on Friday morning.

This compared with the 38 coronavirus-related fatalities and 23,557 new cases reported on Thursday morning.

The 41 fatalities were aged from three months to 104 years.

The figures did not include 22,509 positive results from antigen tests over the previous 24 hours.

Bangkok had one new death and there were six more in the adjacent provinces of Pathum Thani (2), Samut Prakan (2), Nakhon Pathom (1) and Samut Sakhon (1).

Other central plain provinces further from the capital recorded 13 more coonavirus-related deaths – three in Sing Buri, two each in Chon Buri, Sa Kaeo and Suphan Buri and one each in Prachuap Khiri Khan, Prachin Buri, Lop Buri and Saraburi.

The Northeast reported five fatalities – two in Khon Kaen and one each in Nakhon Ratchasima, Buri Ram and Yasothon.

The South reported 10 more deaths - in Surat Thani (5), Phatthalung (2), Trang (1), Phangnga (1), and Yala (1).

The North saw six new fatalities – two each in Chiang Mai and Lampang and one each in Tak and Nakhon Sawan.

There were 24,564 new cases in the general population, 201 among prison inmates and 167 imported cases.

Of the local Covid-19 infections, 24,447 were confirmed at hospitals and 117 via mass testing.

Bangkok had the most new cases at 3,285, followed by 1,419 in Chon Buri, 1,128 in Samut Prakan, 911 in Nakhon Si Thammarat, 775 in Nonthaburi, 738 in Ratchaburi, 716 in Samut Sakhon, 684 in Phuket, 649 in Nakhon Pathom and 644 in Nakhon Ratchasima.

The 167 imported cases included 30 from Russia, 29 from Saudi Arabia, 11 each from Cambodia and Myanmar, eight from Germany, six from Estonia and five each from Sweden and Israel.

On Thursday 190,110 people received Covid-19 treatment at hospitals (up from 180,993 on the previous day), including 931 seriously ill patients with lung inflammation (up from 905) and 254 dependent on ventilators (up from 240).

The 24-hour period also saw 15,774 Covid-19 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 2,819,282 Covid-19 cases, including 595,847 cases this year, with 2,606,363 complete recoveries to date.

The death toll stood at 22,809 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 1,111 so far this year.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 1.76 million in 24 hours to 431.96 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 9,569 to 5.94 million.

The United States had the most cases at 80.45 million, up 70,885.
