23,834 new Covid cases, 54 more deaths

There were 54 more Covid-19 fatalities and 23,834 new cases reported during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry announced on Friday morning.

The figures did not include 31,571 positive results from antigen tests over the past 24 hours.

The latest 54 fatalities were from one to 91 years old and included one foreigner, from Myanmar.

Bangkok had five new deaths and there were six more in adjacent provinces - two in Nakhon Pathom and one each in Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan and Samut Sakhon.

Other central plain provinces further from the capital recorded 10 more deaths.

The Northeast had 14 new fatalities - two each in Loei, Chaiyaphum, Roi Et, Si Sa Ket and Sakon Nakhon and one each in Kalasin, Nakhon Ratchasima, Mukdahan and Nong Bua Lam Phu.

The South reported 13 coronavirus-related deaths - five in Phuket, two in Surat Thani and one each in Krabi, Chumphon, Trang, Phatthalung, Yala and Songkhla.

The North saw five fatalities - two in Chiang Mai and one each in Kamphaeng Phet, Tak, Nakhon Sawan and Sukhothai.

There were 23,603 new cases in the general population, 85 among prison inmates and 146 imported cases.

Of the local Covid-19 infections, 23,267 were confirmed at hospitals and 336 via mass testing.

Bangkok had the most new cases at 2,580, followed by 1,320 in Chon Buri, 1,124 in Nakhon Si Thammarat, 953 in Samut Prakan, 814 in Nakhon Ratchasima, 689 in Pathum Thani, 686 in Samut Sakhon, 684 in Nakhon Pathom, 649 in Rayong and 623 in Phuket.

The 146 imported cases were from 34 countries and included 38 from Myanmar, 20 from Russia, 11 from Germany and 10 from the United Kingdom.

On Thursday 227,843 people received Covid-19 treatment at hospitals (up from 223,414 the previous day), including 1,115 seriously ill patients with lung inflammation (down from 1,131) and 337 who are dependent on ventilators (up from 325).

The 24-hour period also saw 19,351 Covid-19 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 2,981,996 Covid-19 cases, including 758,561 cases this year, with 2,731,029 complete recoveries to date.

The death toll stood at 23,124 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 1,426 so far this year.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 1.61 million in 24 hours to 442.33 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 7,567 to 6.00 million.

The United States had the most cases at 80.84 million, up 49,091.

Over the past seven days, South Korea had the most cases of 1.19 million, followed by Germany with 1.06 million cases, Russia with 757,282 cases and Vietnam with 684,646 cases.
