King bestows bathing water for senior monk

His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua bestowed bathing water for Somdet Phra Wannarat, the late abbot of Bowonniwet Vihara temple, on Thursday evening. His Majesty was accompanied by Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana.

At Bowonniwet Vihara temple in Phra Nakhon district, Bangkok, Their Majesties lit incense sticks and candles and presented religious offerings to pay homage to the revered monk.

Somdet Phra Wannarat died at Chulalongkorn Hospital after battling gall bladder cancer on Tuesday. He was 85.

Somdet Phra Wannarat, whose layman's name was Jun Prampitak, was born on Sept 17, 1936, in tambon Chamrak of Muang district in Trat province. He was ordained as a novice monk after finishing Grade 4 at Wat Khiri Vihara School in Trat.

At the age of 20, he moved to Bowonniwet Vihara temple where he assumed full monk status in a ceremony presided over by the Supreme Patriarch.

He also passed the advanced ecclesiastical parian dharma 9 course.
