Local leader attacked, wounded by gunman

NARATHIWAT: An assistant village headman was shot and seriously wounded in Rueso district on Tuesday night.

Police said  Asae Chema, 57, was travelling on a motorcycle on the road through Moo 2 village in tambon Rueso when he was attacked about 9pm by an unknown assailant.

Mr Asae fell from his bike. He was seriously wounded. The shots were heard by neighbours. He was rushed to Rueso Hospital.

Police found a few spent cartridges on the road and collected them for examination.

An investigation was underway.
