The government is gearing up to deliberate several key bills, which include the Budget Bill, amendments to two organic laws and a planned censure debate, when parliament convenes next month.
Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam said that in addition to the budget proposal and the bills relating to the elections of MPs, at least eight other pieces of legislation will be examined.
These include the civil partnerships bill for same-sex couples, national police bill, a bill that sets out timeframes for judicial processes and another on the digitalisation of administrative functions.
The government is hoping the examination of these bills can be completed without any hold-ups in the 120-day session, he added.
The deputy prime minister dismissed concerns about the possible rejection of the Budget Bill, saying there are contingency plans in place should that complication arise.
When asked about the opposition's plan to submit a no-confidence motion, Mr Wissanu said all cabinet ministers are ready to face scrutiny and should expect to do so as part of their job.
He said cabinet ministers are obliged to adhere to the laws governing those in public office, just as they must expect examination by independent agencies.
However, he said he has no idea who the targets of the planned censure motion are, despite hints from opposition parties that they have three ministers on their radar.
According to Mr Wissanu, the government also has two major events to prepare for: the celebrations for the 90th birthday of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother in August, and the celebrations marking the 100th birthday of Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana, scheduled for May next year.
He said as Unesco has added the late princess to its prestigious list of Eminent Personalities of the World, the government will set up a committee to prepare a series of local and national activities to honour her life's achievements.
Separately, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha yesterday said he is also ready to face the censure motion and defend the Budget Bill for the 2023 fiscal year in parliament.
He also said the government has established several panels to plan the celebrations marking the 100th birthday of Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana, which will take place here both at home and abroad.
