Semen hazing will be probed

Semen hazing will be probed

The navy has formed a committee to investigate an instructor who allegedly punished new recruits by forcing them to drink semen.

The incident allegedly took place at a naval training camp in Chon Buri's Sattahip district last October.

Vice Adm Pokkrong Monthatphalin, navy spokesman, yesterday said an investigation confirmed the alleged incident occurred while a new unit of recruits was being supervised by Petty Officer Second Class Taksin Ngokpilai.

The finding prompted an order for PO2 Taksin to be transferred by his commanding officer to an inactive post.

The commanding officer also launched a probe into the matter. If PO2 Taksin is found guilty he will face serious disciplinary punishment.

One conscript stationed at Sattahip naval base said a video clip posted on Facebook showing the alleged incident was genuine. He said the semen was mixed with fish sauce.

The conscripts in the video clip were recently discharged after completing their six months in the military.

Vice Adm Pokkrong said the navy has extended an apology to the conscripts and their families over what he called an unacceptable incident.

The navy will not tolerate the use of violence when training recruits or any actions that violate human rights, he said.

Navy chief Adm Somprasong Nilsamai also instructed related agencies that supervise military training to ensure that instructors behave appropriately and take care of recruits properly.
