Online lotto seller nabbed

Police have arrested more online lottery resellers for selling overpriced government lottery tickets online.

Recently, a man was arrested for running an online platform to sell overpriced and counterfeit lottery tickets.

Pol Lt Gen Surachate Hakparn, assistant chief of the national police, said Thanawat Phuetsingharat, 57, was arrested for creating a platform to sell fake tickets.

Phantawat Nakwisut, who owns the Kong Salak Plus online lottery selling platform, had earlier complained to Thong Lo police claiming the platform used photos of tickets on Kong Salak Plus to sell fake tickets to its customers.

It concealed the barcodes of Kong Salak Plus's tickets with its logo.

Nine victims have filed petitions with police.

The platform had been operating for over a year with 300,000-500,000 baht of circulated money in each draw.

The suspect has been charged with defrauding people and running an illegal gambling operation.

Pol Lt Gen Surachate said legal action has now been taken against 17 online platforms selling lottery tickets. Police will seize their property on suspicion of money laundering.

"People can report overpriced tickets and defrauding schemes to the Government Lottery Office and to the police," he said.

He said the platforms have affected vendors in physical markets, pressuring them to sell tickets at a higher price due to the costs incurred.
