A government committee formed to solve overpriced lottery tickets will meet today to discuss ways to increase the number of online tickets sold via the Paotang app.
Buying online government lottery tickets has gained popularity since the initiative began. Over 5 million e-lottery tickets for the July 1 draw were sold three days after they were made available for purchase on the app on June 17.
Minister of the Office of the Prime Minister Anucha Nakasai said yesterday his committee will meet today to find opportunities for vendors who want to sell online tickets.
Members will consider the results of sales in the last two rounds and increase the number of online tickets.
However, the Government Lottery Office (GLO) still aims to strike a balance between the number of online and physical tickets, he said.
The success of the e-lottery tickets scheme reinforces the confidence of buyers when buying the government lottery, he said.
Also, the fixed online price of 80 baht per ticket solves the overpriced ticket problem in the market and works as an alternative for buyers, a policy endorsed by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, he said.
Lavaron Sangsnit, GLO chair, said 5,151,500 e-lottery tickets dated July 1 were sold on the Paotang app. In the previous round, 5,173,500 tickets were sold, with 10,347 agents, he said.
He said the feedback he received was overwhelming as online sales had won the confidence of buyers.
He said every purchase is registered online and buyers can claim their prizes regardless of whether they have physical tickets or not.
The app also sends notifications if buyers win a prize and provides a convenient platform to claim lottery winnings, he said.
Purchase history is recorded on the application for a year, he said.
