2,387 new Covid cases, 19 more deaths

The country registered 19 more Covid-19 fatalities and 2,387 new cases during the previous 24 hours, the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) announced on Wednesday.

Tuesday’s figures did not include 4,533 positive results from antigen tests. This would raise the total to 6,920.

This compared with the 21 coronavirus-related fatalities and 1,714 new cases reported on the previous day.

As of Tuesday, a total of 21,152 people were receiving Covid-19 treatment (up from 20,467 on the previous day), including 10,279 in hospitals (up from 10,139). Among the remainder, 977 were in field hospitals/hospitel facilities (down from 1,045) and 9,726 in home/community isolation (up from 9,119).

Of those in hospital, 608 were seriously ill patients with lung inflammation (down from 631) and 290 dependent on ventilators (down from 295).

The 24-hour period also saw 1,683 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering.

According to the CCSA, the 19 people who died were aged from 52 to 89 years.

Bangkok logged no new deaths and there two new fatalities in the adjacent province of Samut Prakan and Nakhon Pathom.

Other central plains provinces further from the capital had five new deaths in Nakhon Sawan, Ang Thong, Saraburi, Rayong and Ratchaburi.

The North reported four deaths - two in Phayao and one each in Lampang and Phrae.

The Northeast saw five new fatalities - two in Khon Kaen and one each in Ubon Ratchathani, Yasothon and Mukdahan.

The South had three new deaths in Nakhon Si Thammarat (2) and Songkhla (1).

Among 2,387 new cases over the past 24 hours, there were 2,379 cases in the general population, four among prison inmates and four new cases among arrivals.

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 4,504,929 Covid-19 cases, including 2,281,494 this year, with 4,453,252 complete recoveries to date.

The accumulated death toll stood at 30,525 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 8,827 so far this year.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 730,579 in 24 hours to 545.77 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 1,235 to 6.34 million.

The United States had the most cases at 88.24 million, up 84,120, and the most deaths at 1.04 million, up 192.
