KANCHANABURI: Nineteen Myanmar nationals who illegally crossed the border into Thailand in four districts of this western province were arrested by army-police patrols on Monday, police said.

The 12 men and seven women were detained  at Tha Khanun village in Thong Phaphum district; Song Kalia village in tambon Nong Lu, Sangkhla Buri district;  Pha-ong Ka village in tambon Tha Sao, Sai Yok district; and Phu Nam Ron village in tambon Ban Kao, Muang district.

They told officials they were from Mawlamyine, Yangon, Bago and Rakhine townships in Myanmar, having paid 15,000-30,000 baht each to brokers who promised jobs for them in Samut Sakhon, Rayong, Kanchanaburi and Bangkok.

They were handed over to police in the four districts for legal processing, after being charged with illegal entry, pending repatriation.
