1,508 new Covid inpatients, 29 more deaths

There were 29 more Covid-19 fatalities and 1,508 new patients admitted to hospitals on Monday, the Ministry of Public Health reported on Tuesday.

This compared with 30 coronavirus-related fatalities and 1,663 patients on Sunday, as reported on Monday.

As of midnight Monday, a total of 19,712 people were receiving Covid-19 treatment (down from 20,256 the previous day), including 10,791 in hospitals (down from 10,902). Of the remainder, 218 were in field hospitals/hospitel facilities (up from 203) and 8,630 in home/community isolation (down from 9,086).

Of those in hospitals, 965 were seriously ill patients with lung inflammation (up from 937) and 501 dependent on ventilators (up from 486).

The 24-hour period also saw 2,023 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering.

Among 1,508 new Covid-19 patients over the past 24 hours, there were 1,507 cases in the general population and one among prison inmates.

The 29 people who died over the past 24 hours were aged from 21 to 96 years.

Bangkok logged two new deaths and there were three new fatalities in the adjacent provinces of Samut Prakan (2) and Samut Sakhon (1).

Other central plains provinces further from the capital had 10 new deaths - three in Ang Thong, two in Samut Songkhram and one each in Chon Buri, Rayong, Chachoengsao, Prachin Buri and Phetchaburi.

The North reported five new deaths - two in Sukhothai and one each in Chiang Rai, Phitchit and Phitsanulok.

The Northeast saw six new fatalities - two each in Khon Kaen and Udon Thani and one each in Surin and Yasothon.

The South had three new deaths in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Krabi and Surat Thani.

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 4,623,596 Covid-19 cases, including 2,400,161 this year, with 4,571,997 complete recoveries to date.

The accumulated death toll stood at 31,887 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 10,189 so far this year.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 437,805 in 24 hours to 595.95 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 1,084 to 6.46 million.

The United States had the most cases at 94.79 million, up 37,565, and the most deaths at 1.06 million, up 112.
