1,360 new Covid inpatients, 22 more deaths

There were 1,360 new Covid-19 inpatients admitted to hospitals and 22 more related fatalities on Sunday, the Ministry of Public Health reported on Monday.

This compared with 1,631 patients and 25 deaths on Saturday, as reported on Sunday.

All cases reported on Monday were local infections.

The 24-hour period saw 2,106 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering.

As of midnight Sunday, a total of 15,418 people were receiving Covid-19 treatment, including 8,333 in hospitals. The remainder included 147 in hospitel facilities and 6,923 or in home/community isolation, according to the daily update posted by the Department of Disease Control.

Of those in hospital, 731 were seriously ill with lung inflammation and 366 dependent on ventilators. According to the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, the 25 people who died were aged from 25 to 95 years with the average age 79. One was a Myanmar national.

Bangkok reported seven covis-related deaths and there was one in the adjacent province of Nakhon Pathom. Other central plains provinces further from the capital reported five deaths - two in Chanthaburi and one each in Ang Thong, Nakhon Sawan and Suphan Buri.

The North reported three  - two in Chiang Mai and one in Lamphun.

The Northeast has six cornavirus-related fatalities -  three in Nakhon Ratchasima and one each in Loei, Buri Ram and Khon Kaen.

The South recorded no deaths. Vaccinations continued to progress, with 142.85 million doses administered as of Sunday. The government said 82.3% of the population has now received at least one dose of the vaccine, 77.3% at least two shots and 45.8% at least one booster shot.

On Sunday, 9,920 vaccine doses were administered -  1,016 as a first shot, 1,893 as a second shot and 7,011 as a booster.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 365,624 in 24 hours to 610.27 million. The worldwide death toll went up by883 to 6.50 million.

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 4,659,902 Covid-19 cases, including 2,436,737 cases this year, with 4,612,062 complete recoveries to date.

The accumulated death toll stood at 32,422 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 10,746 so far this year.

The highest number of Covid-related fatalities in a 24-hour period was 312 recorded on Aug 13, 2021. The highest number of cases was 28,379 on April 1, 2022.
