Arrests made over illegal beauty clinic

A woman has been arrested for allegedly providing illegal beauty treatments at her condo in Bangkok, according to the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB).

The bureau announced the arrest of Kalaya (surname withheld), 37, and Janyamon (surname withheld), 23. They have been charged with jointly running a clinic without permission.

Ms Kalaya faces additional charges of performing medical procedures without a licence and selling unregistered medicine and medicine without permission.

The arrest came after the Consumer Protection Police Division (CPPD) was alerted by the Department of Health Service Support to the illegal treatments being offered by the women.

The pair allegedly ran an advertisement claiming to provide Botox and filler treatments by a nurse, a reference to Ms Kalaya, with 10 years of experience.

The police raided the condo on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road where they found the suspects in the middle of injecting the Botox and derma filler treatments and dispensing medicine to customers. The condo was full of medical supplies for catering to 21 customers who had booked an appointment that day.

Ms Kalaya produced what she claimed was her nursing licence which the officers were working to authenticate.

Pol Maj Gen Anan Nanasombat, the CPPD commander, warned people seeking beauty treatments to always obtain such services from qualified medical practitioners.

Department deputy director-general Dr Panuwat Panket said beauty injections must be performed by doctors at a legally registered establishment. Treatments carried out by untrained or unqualified individuals could result in blindness, infection or even death, he added.
