Chao Phraya River levels will rise in several central plain provinces from Sunday to Wednesday as water surges downstream from the North.
The National Water Command said on Friday the flow rate of the river in its upper section would be 2,100-2,300 cubic metres per second from Wednesday this week to next Monday due to forecast heavy rain. The discharge rate at the Chao Phraya barrage in Chai Nat province would have to be increased to 2,200-2,300 cubic metres per second from Sunday to Tuesday next week.
Consequently, the levels of the Chao Phraya River below the barrage and its tributaries would rise by 30-50 centimetres in Pa Mok and Chaiyo districts of Ang Thong; In Buri and Phrom Buri districts of Sing Buri; Bang Ban, Sena and Phak Hai districts of Ayutthaya; and parts of Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi and Bangkok during the same period.
The Meteorological Department said a high-pressure system from China would push a monsoon trough southwards to the North and the Central Plains until next Wednesday and that would cause heavy rain in the North, the Northeast, the Central Plains, the East and the South.
