Thai Chana, a Covid-19 tracing mobile application for tourist arrivals, has been scrapped in line with the government’s policy to downgrade Covid-19 to a communicable disease under surveillance.

Deputy government spokeswoman Rachada Dhnadirek said on Saturday that the Department of Disease Control under the Public Health Ministry has discontinued Thai Chana starting this month.

All information in the coronavirus tracing system would be destroyed in accordance with information safety standards, she said.

The Department of Consular Affairs will no longer examine Covid-19 documents, such as vaccination certificates and Covid-19 test results of visitors entering Thailand, said Ms Rachada.

“Although Covid-19 has been downgraded to a communicable disease under surveillance, the government is keeping a close watch on the spread of the disease. Booster vaccination is necessary as it helps reduce the risk of severe symptoms, particularly among the elderly,’’ said the deputy government spokeswoman.

She urged people to get fully vaccinated, keep social distancing and wear a face mask, particularly in crowded areas to prevent disease infections.

The government has acquired 3 million doses of Pfizer vaccine for children aged from six months to four years. The vaccine is expected to arrive in the second half of this month, said Ms Rachada.

The country registered seven more Covid-19 fatalities and 823 new cases admitted to hospitals during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry announced on Saturday morning.

This compared with nine coronavirus-related deaths and 839 new cases admitted to hospitals reported on Friday morning.
