Heavy rain is expected in the Northeast from Friday as a tropical storm moves westward into central Vietnam.

Chomparee Chompurat, director-general of the meteorological department, said a depression over the South China Sea would become a tropical storm and enter central Vietnam on either Friday or Saturday.

Its arrival would cause heavy rain in the northeastern provinces of Amnat Charoen, Buri Ram, Chaiyaphum, Kalasin, Khon Kaen, Maha Sarakham, Mukdahan, Roi Et, Si Sa Ket, Surin, Ubon Ratchathani and Yasothon from Friday into Saturday.

It would move into the East and the Central Plain.

People in these provinces should prepare for possible flash flooding and mountain runoff.
