Ministry awards princess a patron title

The Ministry of Culture will confer on HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn the distinguished title of Patron of the National Archives to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the National Archives this year.

Culture Minister Itthipol Kunplome said yesterday the National Archives proposed to the ministry that it confer the distinguished title on the princess to honour her work and achievements.

The Fine Arts Department (FAD) ventured into the matter at a recent meeting of the National Culture Committee, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam. The princess had acknowledged the proposal from the National Archives, he said.

He said the FAD documents would be submitted to the cabinet shortly for approval.

The FAD has also planned to organise a ceremony which includes an exhibition, seminars, a collection of souvenirs and public relations campaigns.

"After the Fine Arts Department presents the proposal to the cabinet, the ministry will hold events to publicise HRH's archival works and promote the importance of the National Archives to people, especially children," said Mr Itthipol.

Mr Itthipol said Thailand's National Archives will host a conference for the Southeast Asia Regional Branch International Council on Archives next year, marking another success in its effort to document history.
