Cops raid Kong Salak Plus office

The office of Kong Salak Plus, an online platform which sells government lottery tickets, was raided by the police on Monday as part of its investigation into alleged price gouging, which followed a complaint by the Government Lottery Office (GLO).

The raid, which was led by assistant national police chief Pol Lt Gen Prachuap Wongsuk -- who chairs a working committee tasked with tackling overpriced lottery tickets -- took place at Kong Salak Plus' head office, officially known as Lottery Online Co, on Sukhumvit Soi 63 in Bangkok's Watthana district.

Pol Lt Gen Prachuap said an investigation by the Anti Money Laundering Office (Amlo) found funds which the company claimed came from "website support fees", which it charges for each ticket sold.

GLO director Lt Col Noon Sansanakhom said that the company had not been granted rights to sell lottery tickets on behalf of the GLO.

Lt Col Noon said the GLO had asked the Consumer Protection Police Division (CPPD) to investigate eight lottery platforms that it suspected are selling tickets above the permitted price of 80 baht.

In addition, many of these platforms have no means of restricting sales to individuals under the age of 20, which is a violation of existing laws.

Panthawat Nakwisut, CEO of Kong Salak Plus, has denied all allegations against the company.
