Panthong Loykulnan, spokesman of the Customs Department, said yesterday that officers from the Seaport Interdiction Task Force (SITF) inspected Bangkok Port in Klong Toey district on Wednesday and found two boxes of suspicious cement ware items.

Mr Panthong said the boxes contained animal stucco dolls in the shapes of cats, giraffes, deer, goats, and decorative fountains.

Discovered inside these items were 30.5 kilogrammes of crystal meth in total, with an estimated street value of 30.5 million baht.

The drugs have been forwarded to the Narcotics Suppression Bureau (NSB) for further investigation.

Mr Panthong said officers are coordinating with relevant agencies, both domestic and international, to track drug-smuggling operations. He said the traffickers are using various tactics to smuggle more drugs out of the country.

From Oct 1 last year to Aug 22, the Customs Department recorded 126 drug smuggling cases valued at more than 900 million baht.
