A Trang woman upset over her husband's affairs doused him in acid and fled their home as he died a painful death, police said.

Police rushed to the house of the victim, a village head, in tambon Bohin of Sikao district after being alerted around noon on Saturday.

Police and rescue workers found the 46-year-old man lying on the floor in severe pain. He had extensive acid burns on his body and was rushed to Trang Hospital but died shortly later, said Pol Maj Opas Chaiyabun, a duty officer at the Sikao police station.

A police investigation found the attack was carried out by his 44-year-old wife. The woman had poured more than 10 bottles of acid into a bucket before using a bowl to pour acid on her husband while he was sleeping. The man woke up screaming in pain. His wife fled after the attack.

Police said the couple had quarrelled frequently over the man's affairs with another woman.
