Six Myanmar nationals, a man and five women, were arrested yesterday morning in Pathum Thani province with 14kg of crystal methamphetamine — or "ice'' — in their possession.

Lin Yu Aung, 35, Kay Thi Ngwe, 29, Win May, 54, Than Than Win, 42, Zin Mar New, 34, and Wai Yan Htwe, 32, were arrested after a taxi they were travelling in was stopped for a search at a checkpoint by Pratunam Chulalongkorn police in Thanyaburi district.

Found in their possession was a large plastic bag containing 14 packages of ice, each weighing one kilogramme. The packages were labelled as green tea.

One of the Myanmar women told police they had travelled with the drugs from Mae Sot in Tak province.

They had intended to hand over the crystal meth, disguised as green tea, to a client at Rangsit market, but were arrested before reaching their destination, police said.

The six lived in Pathum Thani.
