Vocational students from 14 schools gathered near Government House in a show of support for the prime minister on Monday.

The group, totalling about 30 students, arrived at the Government House complaints centre at the adjacent Office of the Civil Service Commission about 10am. They call their group Archiva Chuai Chart (vocational students for the nation) Ratchadamnoen 56.

The students brought flowers and submitted a letter of support to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha. through an official of the complaints centre.

Representing the group, Danai Thipyan said they wanted to show support for the prime minister's efforts, and national reform before the next general election.

The group also called for continued suppression of corruption to ensure better quality politicians and in the interests of national security.

Mr Danai said the group would not rally to confront any groups with an opposing viewpoint. The student group previously protested on Ratchadamnoen Avenue against the Yingluck Shinawatra government in 2013 and the controversial amnesty bill in 2014.

The gathering of vocational students was a response to the activities of student groups such as the New Democracy Movement protesting against the May 22 coup last year led by Gen Prayut, chief of the National Council for Peace and Order.
