Constitutional amendment, income and crop price guarantees, and power decentralisation are among proposals the Democrat Party will seek to have included in government policies, says Niphon Bunyamanee, party deputy leader.

He said the party’s representatives will discuss policy with coalition parties on Monday. Chalermchai Sri-on, the party’s secretary-general, is likely to represent the camp at the talks, he said.

“As for the Democrats’ policies that we want incorporated into the government’s policy, there could initially be income guarantees, crop price guarantees, charter amendments and plans for the decentralisation of power to local administrative organisations,” Mr Niphon said.

Talks will be held with core parties to coalesce policies into a common policy, said Mr Niphon, who is tipped to become deputy interior minister.

“The common policy must tackle peoples’ problems,” he said.

Meanwhile, Bhumjaithai party leader Anutin Charnvirakul posted messages and images on his Facebook page about his visit to Chaopraya Abhaiphubejhr Hospital in Prachin Buri, which is conducting research into marijuana extracts for medical use.

The information gained from the visit would be used to push for the legalisation of cannabis for medical purposes, said Mr Anutin, who is tipped to become the deputy prime minister and public health minister.

The Chartthaipattana Party’s director Nikorn Chamnong said his camp’s policies, as laid out before the poll, had been forwarded to those responsible for forming the government.

He said the party’s seven urgent tasks which it wants the government to address cover agriculture, education, society, public health, power distribution, tourism and city development.
