FFP team submits share saga 'proof'

Future Forward Party's (FFP) legal team on Monday submitted clarification to the Constitutional Court defending party leader Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit in his controversial media-shareholding case.

The team also asked the court to revoke its order which suspended Mr Thanathorn as an MP, FFP secretary-general Piyabutr Saengkanokkul said on Monday.

"We asked the court to have a full hearing of evidence and revoke an order that suspends Mr Thanathorn from performing his MP duties. Moreover, the trial should be open and transparent," he told the press.

Among the arguments was that the Election Commission (EC) is not authorised to consider the case against Mr Thanathorn because as of March 24, the party leader no longer held the shares, the former Thammasat law lecturer said.

He also said the EC was too hasty in its petition against Mr Thanathorn, compared to its conduct with the shareholding case of Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai's wife.

Mr Piyabutr said that Mr Thanathorn has not held any media shares since Jan 8 of this year.

"Our legal team has already submitted all evidence this afternoon to prove that he did not hold any media shares on the application day. Accordingly, he does not hold any media shares as an MP.

According to Section 1129 of the Civil and Commercial Code, the share transferal depends on the transfer papers and the receipt. We follow previous rulings made by the Supreme Court, the Administrative Court and the Constitutional Court," he said.

Moreover, Mr Piyabutr said V-Luck Media Co Ltd was hired to print the magazine.

"We signed a contract with Nok Air to print the in-flight magazine Jib Jib. All the content was provided by the airline and therefore free from any political agenda. Moreover, the firm stopped operations on Nov 26 last year.

We terminated more than 140 employees The last issue of the magazine was published on Nov 30 last year," he said.

Mr Piyabutr also dismissed speculation that Mr Thanathorn has fled overseas and promised he would return as he is still an MP.
