The outgoing junta government held its last meeting on Monday, as the schedule for the members of the new cabinet to take the oath of office before HM the King on Tuesday was moved forward an hour.

Cabinet secretary-general Theerapong Wongsiwawilas said on Monday the swearing-in ceremony at the Ambara Villa in Dusit Palace had been rescheduled from 6pm to 5pm on Tuesday.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha planned to hold the first meeting of his new cabinet when they return to Government House after the ceremony.

Gen Prayut chaired the last meeting of the cabinet handpicked by the National Council for Peace and Order on Monday, but refused to give details of the agenda. He said only that one of the issues was problems related to farmers.

The cabinet was also expected to discuss a memorandum of understanding with Laos proposed by the Social Development and Human Security Ministry.

Monday is also the last day for Gen Prawit Wongsuwon as defence minister. He will retain only a deputy premiership in the new government. Prime Minister Gen Prayut has taken the defence portfolio himself.

Gen Prawit was to chair his last meeting of the Defence Council later on Monday, after the final cabinet talks at Government House.
