Authorities in two provinces are refusing to allow people to take part in local versions of the campaign-run to oust Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha planned for Sunday in Bangkok.
Chatchai Kaewkhampod, an organiser of the campaign in the northeastern province of Ubon Ratchathani, said on Tuesday that he was told on Monday by Pol Lt Col Pramote Cheunta, the deputy Muang police station chief, that security authorities in province disapproved of the run.
He cited security and obstruction of traffic as reasons why the run should not be held in the municipality on Sunday, Mr Chatchai said.
It was also claimed the run would obstruct worshippers who gather every Sunday to offer alms to monks at Thung Sri Muang, he said.
Thung Sri Muang is a municipal landmark and one of the locations along the planned route for the run.
However, Mr Chatchai, who contested the March election under the Future Forward Party banner, said the run in Ubon Ratchathani would go ahead, as he had not received a written directive from the authorities prohibiting it.
Police in Muang district of Phayao province also rejected a request by three Phayao University students for permission under the Public Gathering Act to organise a local "Run to oust Uncle" on Sunday. The request lacked the necessary details for approval, Muang police chief Pol Col Boworn Chaikham said.
The campaign-run for the ouster of Gen Prayut will be held at Suan Rot Fai in Bangkok on Sunday. Supporters of the prime minister will hold a walk at Lumpini Park on the same day.
Organisers of the run against the prime minister in Bangkok have said they are not responsible for any runs planned in other provinces.
The FFP has directed its members not to take part in organising the run, but the opposition party is allowing them to join in the run.
The planned run in Phayao caused Chiang Kham Wittayakhom School in Chiang Kham district to move its mini-marathon forward one day, from Sunday to Saturday, for fear it would be dragged into politics if held on the same day.
"The mini-marathon of Chiang Kham Wittayakhom School is intended only to promote exercise and unity in the community. It will not be used as a political tool by others," school director Mana Piriyapattana said.
Rangsiman Rome, spokesman for the Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee, also said organisers of the event in some provinces were under pressure by security authorities.
Mr Rangsiman, a party-list MP of FFP, said the event in Bangkok has been approved and runs in other provinces should be treated the same way.
