The cabinet on Tuesday passed a resolution for municipal elections at all levels to be held nationwide, as proposed by the Election Commission (EC), with polling tentatively scheduled for March 21.
EC secretary-general Pol Col Jarungvith Phumma informed cabinet of the agency's preparedness to hold elections for the mayors and councillors of municipalities of all levels - tambon, muang and nakhon - throughout the country.
The cabinet set March 21 as the tentative date. The exact date is to be announced by the EC.
The municipal elections, the first since the military coup in May 2014, follow the provincial administration organisation polls on Dec 20.
Deputy Public Health Minister Sathit Pitutecha posted a confirmation of the cabinet decision on his Facebook page:: "The cabinet has passed a resolution for the election of mayors and members of municipal councils to be held nationwide. If without change, the elections will be held on March 21."
