Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha is concerned about population's health amid a new cold spell and would like people to avoid political gatherings as the Covid-19 outbreak continues, government spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri said on Sunday.
Mr Anucha said it is still necessary for the government to exercise its powers under the emergency decree and the Communicable Diseast Act to contain the pandemic.
The government would like people to avoid gatherings -- particularly political ones -- during this time, and thanks the majority who have cooperated. he said. The government does not want to see the number of infections grow as a result of political rallies.
The government is introducing more measures to help people affected by the latest Covid-19 outbreak and is preparing new economic stimulus programmes, he said.
Mr Anucha said Gen Prayut is also concerned about people's health as another high pressure area from China is expected to cover the upper part of Thailand from Jan 17-19.
This would see temperatures drop by 2 to 3 degree Celsius in the North, East and Central regions, including Bangkok and surrounding provinces.
As for the Northeast, the temperature would drop by 4-6 degree Celsius during the period, he said.
The spokesman added Gen Prayut has also asked people to be careful when setting fires to keep themselves warm.
