His Majesty the King says he believes the four new appointees to the cabinet, sworn in on Saturday, will be able to fulfil their duties effectively.

His Majesty addressed the new ministers during the swearing of the oath ceremony which took place yesterday at the Ambara Villa in Dusit Palace.

The king said he trusts the new appointees will be able to effectively execute their office.

The king also shared his wishes for the new ministers to have the right amount of energy and wisdom to fulfil their duties.

The appointees are Deputy Transport Minister Weerasak Wangsuphakijkosol, Digital Economy and Society Minister Chaiwut Thanakhamanusorn, Deputy Commerce Minister Sinit Lertkrai, and Education Minister Trinuch Thienthong.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha took the newest additions to his cabinet to the ceremony.

Before the ceremony, Mr Chaiwut said he planned to report for work at the ministry tomorrow, where he will brief officials about his policies.

He said some policies would carry on as they were while other issues which had not been tackled decisively would need to be re-worked.

He was referring to numerous websites that have been known to incite social unrest through the spread of "fake news".

However, the DES minister said that enforcing any law too swiftly could negatively impact people's rights and freedoms.

Ms Trinuch, meanwhile, said she also planned to start working at the Education Ministry tomorrow and would be re-delegating jobs at the ministry as one of his first jobs.

Gen Prayut last week defended his choice of cabinet ministers, particularly Ms Trinuch, who has been criticised for her lack of experience in educational affairs.

Mr Chaiwut replaces Buddhipongse Punnakanta while Ms Trinuch succeeds Nataphol Teepsuwan. Mr Weerasak takes the place of Thaworn Senneam.

Mr Buddhipongse, Mr Nataphol and Mr Thaworn were removed from their ministerial posts after being convicted by the Criminal Court for their role in the 2013-2014 street protests led by the now-defunct People's Democratic Reform Committee.
