Political activist Nattawut Saikuar called off a planned rally at Asok intersection on Wednesday afternoon, saying he suspected police would waiting there to serve him with an arrest warrant.

Mr Nattawut posted a message on his Facebook page notifying supporters of the cancellation.

"Today, probably in the afternoon, I heard police would file for a warrant. Not known whether the court would approve it. If approved, I expect the police would come with the warrant to the 4pm Asok rally.

"I insist the rally is peaceful and without weapons. It's a right under the constitution. I am ready to enter the justice process. But I don't want to be detained in the middle of the rally because there would be a confrontation and I don't want to play that game."

Mr Nattawut said Wednesday's rally at the Asok intersection was cancelled and he would try to verify the information about the warrant.  If true, he and Sombat Boonngam-anong, another rally leader, would surrender to police immediately.

Mr Sombat also posted on his Facebook, that if the police really had a court warrant he would surrender.
